Prizes being laid out for the Closing Ceremony

Sunday 12 December 2015: Closing Ceremony After a nice Sunday morning bacon and egg breakfast with the Hardings we trundled over to the airfield. Actually, to be accurate, Jess had to leave earlier as she had lots of preparations to do. Prizes needed to be labelled and sorted, FAI Diplomas printed (with correct spelling of all the names)… At the airfield the atmosphere was nice and

Photo Opportunity with all JWGC2015 Pilots

Saturday 11 December 2015: 12th Competition Day, 10th Task – 3hr Assigned Area Task in the Blue and the Final Countdown The air was forecast to remain relatively cool and dry for our final race. A deep blue sky and climbs to about 6000ft would be with us and particularly the pilots the whole day. I readied the glider which took a little longer than usual

Friday 10 December 2015: 11th Competition Day, 9th Task – 390kms in Blue changing to CU studded Sky Early in the morning Rachel had to catch her flight back to Adelaide to be able to attend a friend’s wedding on the weekend. Jess drove her to Dubbo and was back in time for breakfast. An early start was called this morning as another front was forecast

Club Class Grid

Thursday 10 December 2015: 10th Competition Day, 8th Task – More promising Clouds and big Tasks 630km task for Standard Class and 500km for Club Class and an early launch today. Forecast was for 12 to 13,000ft and thunderstorms to the north. This is another chance for the Club Class boys to harvest some much needed points. The trickier weather and shorter tasks have stacked the odds

Big Puddle in front of the Aussie Team Hangar

Tuesday 8 December 2015: 8th Competition Day, No task – Rest Day Not much to report about. We all did our own things. Joanne and I spent some time in the pool, then had a nanny nap followed by washing, shopping and dinner at the Bowling Club (where we met Rachel and Jess at a roundtable of competition officials). Around then a storm front rolled

JWG2015 Bleak Sky

Monday 7 December 2015: 7th Competition Day, 6th Task – A tough Challenge and International Delights With a front moving in and a very grey looking sky the forecast was positive for a great soaring day. Many thought the tasks were way overset but the results say otherwise despite a good number of outlandings. As always Soaring Spot has the scores. Tomorrow is likely to be unsoarable so

Towing out to the Grid

Saturday 5 & Sunday 6 December 2015: 5th & 6th Competition Day, 4th & 5th Task – Getting hotter As the weather heats up the battle is also getting fiercer. Saturday morning at the briefing we had 3 Australians on the podium and with the thermals starting to favour our team’s gliders we were fully expecting to see the boys climb up the ladder and so they

Friday 4 December 2015: 4th Competition Day, 3rd Task – Yet another Blue Day Towing out today and setting up on the grid I took some pictures to show things from my vantage point. The boys are getting to play in a beautiful blue sky. The wind has died down and conditions are expected to be similar to yesterday. Eric actually had a smile on his face

Tasks Today

Thursday 3 December 2015: 3rd Competition Day, 2nd Task – Variation on the Theme in Blue This morning the mostly blue sky was dotted in places with fast cycling cumulus clouds which progressively dried up. Thermals were predicted to be slightly stronger and go a little higher, some  in the blue and some CU in parts of the task area. A mixed bag that may require

A Blue Day

Wednesday 2 December 2015: 2nd Competition Day, 1st Task – A Play in the Blue The storm yesterday was a bit too much for the windsock at the Sky Park. This morning it was still windy which was the prediction for the whole day. It would also be completely blue but reasonable soaring weather. Assigned Area Tasks were set for both classes and the launches went
