Gliding Championships 2015 – A Crew Perspective (Closing Ceremony and Last Post)
Sunday 12 December 2015:
After a nice Sunday morning bacon and egg breakfast with the Hardings we trundled over to the airfield. Actually, to be accurate, Jess had to leave earlier as she had lots of preparations to do. Prizes needed to be labelled and sorted, FAI Diplomas printed (with correct spelling of all the names)…
At the airfield the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. I’m sure that quite a few were handicapped by hangovers from the party last night.
The event was a fairly relaxed affair with teams loosely grouped together but feeling free to mingle a bit with their new friends and acquaintances.
Then came the big moments on the podium with flags and national anthems. We have a World Champion and it was great to have been part of the team that contributed to getting him there.
Whilst some of our expectations have certainly been higher – especially after the boys’ performance at the Nationals – we can be mighty proud of these achievements. This was a test against the best in the world and every team had high expectations. Our team has done extremely well with all of our pilots achieving scores that we can be proud of.
There are so many people to thank who have helped to make this happen, too many to name here individually so I won’t.
Was it all worth it?
You bet it was!!
The experience to be part of a successful world level sporting team, the atmosphere at the event and making so many new friends and acquaintances from all over the world is priceless.
