A Blue Day

Junior World Gliding Championships 2015 – A Crew Perspective (The Fun continues in Blue)

Wednesday 2 December 2015:

2nd Competition Day, 1st Task – A Play in the Blue

The storm yesterday was a bit too much for the windsock at the Sky Park.

This morning it was still windy which was the prediction for the whole day. It would also be completely blue but reasonable soaring weather. Assigned Area Tasks were set for both classes and the launches went without a hitch.

One team had to push the glider off with a flat tyre but eventually got it going well after the others, only for his team mate to land out a few kms down the track.

Our boys, however, seemed to have had a reasonable, albeit challenging run. Others did not fare so well – there were several outlandings. The results are up on Soaring Spot. With the day’s conditions being a bit mismatched for the performance curve of the LS3s and given the significantly higher handicap factor they are not at the top of the list yet but we can be satisfied with the achievements and overall points. The off-the-stick speeds and Team Cup placing are nothing to be sneezed at.

The next two days are forecast to be similar with conditions improving somewhat but still blue – just how the Aussie team likes it…
